Douglas Stewart

 

 

Douglas Stewart was born in New Zealand in 1913 and moved to Australia in 1938. He was literary editor of The Bulletin from 1940 to 1961 and an editor at Angus & Robertson, and did a great deal to encourage Australian poets and writers.

His own work included many books of poetry, such as the verse novel The Fire on the Snow, and the memoir Springtime in Taranaki. He died in 1985.
