Arthur Upfield

 

Arthur Upfield (1890-1964) is the best mystery writer Australia has produced.

His Aboriginal / European detective Inspector Napoleon Bonaparte is one of the major figures in twentieth century crime fiction.

Upfield was born in England and came to South Australia early in the century. Apart from fighting with the AIF in the First World War, he stayed here for the rest of his life, falling in love with the outback and travelling widely or working at various labouring jobs.
