Jamie Grant has published five collections of poems. Unlike many of today's poets, he uses rhyme and metre in his work, and has shown successfully that the contemporary world can be expressed by time-tested methods. His other major achievement has been to use verse to deal with material these days more usually written about in prose. His poetry is noted for its journalistic reports, narratives, personal memoirs, meditative essays, travelogues, and even, on occasion, literary criticism.

'Jamie Grant is one of our most technically sophisticated and original poets. At its best his work achieves a synthesis between the most durable qualities of the Movement (urbanity and to a certain extent formalism) and a refined Australian idiom, a wry understatedness.'
