This trilogy consists of White Arrest, Taming the Alien, and The McDead, all published in the UK in the late 1990s. The trilogy is set around Brixton and follows a small group of villains and Detective-Sergeant Brant and Chief Inspector Roberts, two hopelessly corrupt and violent detectives desperately looking for a 'white arrest'. This is an arrest so spectacular it absolves the police involved from their earlier misdemeanors.

The books are notable for their unusually lively stories and their pacey, jagged prose, as well as the constant references to films and other parts of popular culture. They might make some readers think of The Bill with a large - very large - addition of sex, drugs, rock and roll and bad language. The trilogy is being filmed by Channel Four in the UK.

The Guards is his new crime novel set in Ireland, was released by Duffy and Snellgrove in July 2002.
